He was born and brought up in Glashütte, a small village in Brandenburg (the area surrounding Berlin). His family had committed itself to the profession of glas-blowing since two generations - one of the professions essential for Germany's industrialisation. His education was very international, even according to today's standards. After some first experiences with Siemens he left Germany and headed for the US. When back in Germany in 1996 he founded "R. Burger & Co."", a company specialised in manufacturing scientific instruments made out of glass. He supplied universities and medical institutes around the world. His company was to enjoy worldwide fame shortly thereafter. He was married to Charlotte Burger (born Gruber) and had four children. In 1954 Reinhold Burger died in Berlin Pankow aged 88. He is being commemorated by an official plaque on his former home Wilhelm-Kuhr-Strasse 3. His company continued to operate until 1982 under the leadership of this two sons Reinhold Burger jr. and Siegmund Burger. It was due to the long sightedness of his son Helmut Burger that the interiors of the company could be saved from destruction. It is thanks to the commitment of Mr MLP Schulz and Dr Goes that the complete interior can be viewed in a museum at his place of birth: Glashütte.
